One of the founding nations of competitive football, England have enjoyed plenty of success and more than their fair share of disappointment in this worldwide tournament over the years.

From winning in 1966 when the competition was hosted in their country, England have endured their ups and downs on the pitch ever since. Penalty shoot out misery, goals that should have been and narrow margins are what have separated the side from glory in recent years.

2010's campaign was a miserable win for the side after slogging their way through the group stage before being eliminated by biggest rivals Germany in a disheartening 4-1 loss in the round of 16.

England suffered humiliation again at the World Cup again by failing to get through their group. After losses to Uruguay and Italy and a draw to Costa Rica, they finished 4th with a grand tally of 1 points.
